The operation of a two-stroke engine involves the differential of pressure and the cyclical opening of the intake and exhaust valves to perform its cycle. A reed valve allows the blend of air and fuel to flow in just one direction – from the carburetor into the crankcase. Over time, its petals can get cracked, chipped, and may not close tightly against the block. This results in poor engine performance and can cause rough idle, reduced power, and other issues.
