Some of the most important, even crucial, components of your all-terrain vehicle’s engine are timing gears and chain(s). They are specifically engineered and manufactured to synchronize the rotation of the camshaft and crankshaft, so as to make the valves open and close in full accordance with the intake and exhaust cycles. But over time, chains tend to get longer due to the wear of its metal rollers and links, which causes the shift of cycles. Gears also wear out, and it can be seen if you compare the shape of teeth of a new and used gear.

When a chain gets too long, it affects engine performance. In some cases, it can even jump one or several teeth, which can be dangerous for the motor.
