Powersports Brake Rotors

"Hitting the trails on your four-wheeler is fun and enjoyable as long as you can stop it safely. To achieve that goal, all-terrain vehicles, just like any other ones, are equipped with a braking system. It allows for slowing or stopping them when needed. Most ATVs/UTVs use hydraulic disc brakes. Though, some models still have drum ones or use a combination of two mentioned types. Both systems are activated by pulling a hand lever or pushing a foot pedal. The latter is most commonly used to activate rear brakes.

A disc brake system is developed to stop a ride by pressing pads against a rotor that is directly connected to the wheel and spins at the same speed. This simple method results in safe, predictable stopping power. However, to guarantee proper operation of the whole system, that part should be in good condition. If it has cracks or shows any other serious signs of wear or damage, it should be replaced without a moment’s hesitation. For even stopping performance, rotors are recommended to be replaced in pairs. Today, the aftermarket is full of replacement parts so it won’t be an issue to find the right ones for your four-wheeler.

Brake rotors are currently available in various designs and shapes to match the specifications of different models and meet the needs of the most demanding customers. Many of them feature holes and/or grooves that allow for weight loss. In addition, that specific design allows rotors to whisk away heat and water more effectively, thus ensuring ultimate braking performance in any weather and road conditions. Those drills are more effective when the rotor turns in a particular direction. Plenty of brake rotors without any holes don’t have the preferred direction of rotation. Just keep it in mind when installing new discs on your ATV/UTV."
