Accessory drive belts wind their way around such components as the power steering pump, water pump, air conditioning compressor, and alternator propelling them when the engine is running. While older vehicles used separate V-belts for each component, newer vehicles have a single serpentine belt to drive them all. Built with a transverse groove design, the belt runs cooler and reduces rib cracking while providing increased flexibility in both normal and backside bending.
