A CDI box, also known as a CDI module or power pack, is responsible for the correct ignition timing. Triggered by the pulses from the pickup coil, which monitors engine RPM through the rotation of the flywheel, the CDI module determines when to transfer electric current to the ignition coil. These boxes are made to deliver reliable performance for years to come, but over tens and hundreds of miles of exposure to heat and the shocks of crossing the streams and bouncing over challenging trails, a CDI eventually goes bad. If you want to restore ignition performance to its original specs with a new replacement module, or you plan to increase the power and RPM redline of your powersports vehicle, we have exactly what you need.
CDI is short for Capacitor-Discharge Ignition. Its name suggests that is has a capacitor, which stores current and can release it to the ignition coil almost instantaneously. The fast charging and discharging times mean the capacitor can charge again in a very short time for another cycle. The spark is of shorter duration and higher intensity, which increases spark energy for fuller combustion of the mixture. These are the ideal characteristics for ignition systems that fire high-revving motors. Another feature that sets this type apart is insensitivity to electrical shunts.
CDI can be AC or DC powered. In the first case, there are dedicated coils on a stator which provide alternating current to the module. The boxes that run on DC power source it directly from the battery. Whatever the type of ignition, we have CDI boxes specific to your powersports vehicle. High-performance modules alter advance curve and increase rev limit for higher horsepower and torque than stock. They can also offer programmable timing curves and rev limits to suit a wide range of engine mods and riding styles. Our selection of powersports ignition boxes and modules comes from some of the industry’s biggest names including Dynatek, QuadBoss, Procom, and EPI Performance, so you get the quality that top racers and engine builders rely on.
