Snowmobile Reed Valve Systems

It is critically important that your sled be in top shape to prevent any risk of getting stranded somewhere at freezing temperatures. Snowmobiles are equipped with two-stroke engines that offer more robust performance compared to their four-stroke counterparts. In two-stroke engines, reed valves play a key role in ensuring optimal power and performance. They exploit the pressure differential that occurs within the crankcase during the engine cycle to control the flow of the air-fuel mixture.

A reed valve allows the mixture to flow in just one direction: from the carb into the crankcase. The upward motion of the pistons creates a vacuum which allows the blend to flow in, while the opposite stroke forces the mixture into the cylinders for combustion. Reed petals are wear items and when they get chipped or cracked, they need to be replaced. A failing reed valve presents such tell-tale signs as rough idle, hard starting, loss of power, and other symptoms that come from lack of oxygen in the air-fuel blend. We carry a selection of snowmobile reed valve systems and components including replacement gaskets, boots, clamps, and reeds.
