Powersports Jump Starters

Unlike cars that are driven almost every single day, it’s not as often that many powersports vehicles are used. It's no good for their batteries which gradually lose their juice, so chances are, you will get no response from the vehicle when trying to start it after a break of several weeks or so. Getting a battery charger or maintainer is a good idea, but most of them need the AC network and several hours to bring the battery back to life and make it capable of cranking the motor.

There are charging stations which can start the motor at once if you need that, but they are stationary. A portable device allowing you to start the engine when you're far from the garage is called a jump starter, or jump box. While being lightweight and compact, about the size of a smartphone, most of these products rely on lithium-ion technology and are quite universal. Besides cranking the engine which actually rarely takes place, they can serve as a power bank for your laptop, smartphone, or other electronics.

Many jump starters come with USB ports and different cables and adapters; all these components can be transported in a bag that is also included in a kit. Also, lots of models are equipped with a practical LED flashlight. There are products designed to work with a virtually dead battery, but the jump starter itself has to be at least half-charged to start the motor. A special indicator will show you how much juice is left, so you will be able to charge your device beforehand (this can take a few hours). When it comes to the necessary power, approximately 400 Cold Cranking Amps (CCA for short) are enough to start a four-cylinder motor, while most motorcycle engines can be cranked with 200-300 CCA; an exact value depends on air temperature and the state of the powerplant.
