Most powersports vehicles, be it a snowmobile, personal watercraft, or side-by-side, are used seasonally and stored in a garage during the off-season. However, even the most careful storage influences their condition, and the battery is one of those parts that may need your attention when the new season begins. The problem is, no batteries can hold a charge forever. They gradually lose it; in the winter, this process goes somewhat quicker than in the warm season. Fortunately, the modern market in general and our online store in particular offer effective battery chargers and maintainers.
Available in different designs and configurations, they feature advanced microprocessors that can determine the current battery status and even voltage (6 or 12 V) depending on the model. Connected to the battery with spark-proof connectors, they use a special algorithm to charge it in the most efficient and safe way requiring the minimum of time. This algorithm consists of several stages according to the degree of charge, during which the battery receives different amperage. Meanwhile, some models, so-called “trickle chargers,” can just remain connected to the battery for quite a while and maintain it in working condition using very weak current.
In certain cases, such an approach is better than fast charging that is not suitable for many batteries – they can overheat and fail prematurely. Also, most of the modern chargers use special solutions eliminating the risk of overcharge, undercharge, and short circuits. Some universal models allow you to select between different modes such as the quick charge of an almost dead battery or a lasting “floating” charge with low amperage to make sure the vehicle is always ready for a trip. Some devices can be used for several means of transport at the same time.
