When tackling rough terrain, you want the shield of your powersports helmet to be properly secured in place to protect your face and eyes from wind, debris and other hazards. At the same time it must be easy to raise in less than no time and fixed in the upper position in case something obstructs your vision, and this is when your helmet pivot mechanism comes in handy. Located on the left and right sides of the helmet, it allows the shield to glide up and down and makes it possible to secure it on both ends of the helmet.

To keep the shield from shifting while on the go, the helmet has a pivot mechanism that prevents any kind of movements except for travel up and down. However, over time, the pivots lose their tightness which leads to vibration and shaking. If you notice any occasional shield movements while riding, it’s a smart time to replace the whole pivots or their worn out components. It is also a good idea to inspect your pivots each time you remove the shield and replace them every third change.

Your helmet is designed to protect your head from injuries, flying debris and other hazards you may face while riding. Doing its job, it is prone to scratches and collecting dirt. Being a part of the helmet, the pivot mechanism is also subject to wear and tear. To protect it from the impact of the elements which may ruin it over time, your helmet comes with pivot covers. If they crack or get damaged, your pivots will quickly collect dust and moisture which will lead to their premature failure. That’s why damaged pivot covers should be replaced as soon as possible.

The pivot mechanism of your helmet is built to live a long life. However, dirt and water can ruin it over time, so you may need to replace it. If so, it is better to use pivots of the same type and construction to ensure the perfect fit and function. Such replacement kits are available in a variety of models and types on our website, so you’re sure to find the right one for your application. In addition to replacement assemblies, you will also find all necessary replacement components, including screws, side plates, covers and much more.

Many shield assemblies use the ratchet mechanism which allows the motion in only one direction and prevents movements in the opposite way. A ratchet consists of a round or linear rack with teeth and pivot. Due to friction that appears each time you move the face shield, the teeth slowly wear down, resulting in improper operation of the face shield mechanism. These worn out components need to be replaced once you notice their failure to operate properly, since they may cause vibration and occasional movements of your shield.
