ATK’s long history of success began far back in 1984, when Horst Leitner introduced his device developed to eliminate chain torque in order to improve handling. That device called the Anti-Tension Kettenantrieb and the name of the company derived from it. ATK quickly gained a strong reputation among motorcycle fans thanks to its reliable and powerful vehicles featuring ATK parts and accessories professionally built to last for years. Since its inception, ATK has led the motorcycle industry with a huge number of “firsts” including Electric Start (known as 604E) on a high-powered thumper 4-stroke (in 1989), fuel injection (EFI) on an off-road motorcycle (in 1992), and production dirt trackers (in 1998). Today, the company is globally known as an all terrain vehicle and motorcycle manufacturer. Moreover, the company is the only remaining manufacturer of off-road motorcycles in the USA.

Since its foundation, ATK has taken part in a great number of national and international motorcycle-ATV championships. With more than 30 years of experience in building powerful motorcycles and dozens of various awards, the company has never stopped innovating and developing new solutions for the motorcycle industry as well as improving its existing offerings. Thanks to its reputation as an innovator, the company signed contracts with four large motorcycle manufacturers in 1996 and had developed prototype motorcycles and ATV platforms. Year after year, the company worked hard to provide customers with not only reliable vehicles, but also ATK accessories and parts of the highest quality and durability. Its product line had been constantly expanded with new components.

In 2003, the company acquired the powersports division of Cannondale that filed for bankruptcy. As a result, about 480 tons of powersports production assets of the company moved to ATK’s manufacturing facility. Later, ATK began building ATK accessories and parts for not only its own, but also Cannondale motorcycles and provide them through the Cannondale dealer network. In 2004, the company reengineered the Cannondale platform. That new platform brought victories in three national championships in the USA and Canada. For the 2004 model year, the company’s lineup adopted the 450 MX, 450 OR, and 450 VR, each of which was powered by a single cylinder, four-stroke, four-valve DOHC and had a displacement of 449 cc. In 2005, ATK expanded its motorcycle lineup with the 450 XC, 450 Enduro, and other vehicles. The engineers at the company have never rested on their laurels and keep working hard to give customers exceptional driving performance. The ATK product line is constantly expanding and improving. Thus, the 450 Dirt Tracker and 450 Motard joined the ATK family in 2008. The same year, the 450 Enduro got a great number of upgrades.
