Powersports Helmet & Sun Shields
Keeping your eyes protected from wind, sun glare, dust, rain, dirt, insects and different debris is vital no matter what powersports vehicle you ride. A helmet shield is the ultimate line of defense between your face and everything you may encounter while conquering rough terrain. Doing its job, your shield is prone to collecting minor dents and scratches, so it is just a matter of time when you notice that they affect your ability to see clearly through the shield. When it happens, it’s a smart time to replace your shield with a new one.
Different driving environments call for specific solutions, so it is important to have the right shield that fits the type of riding you’re doing. For example, a tinted shield used in fog or rain is sure to worsen already poor visibility conditions, and vise versa, riding with a clear shield on a sunny day, the sun glare can distort your vision. Fortunately, both situations are not likely to happen if you utilize the right shield. You may use different shields with the same helmet, going with the one that better addresses specific driving conditions at the moment.
Helmet shields are available in a broad variety of types and designs to meet different applications. The most common ones are standard shields which may come in different colors, as well as with and without removable anti-fog inserts. Along with standards shields, you may also find dual-pane, mirrored, iridium shields, and some other ones. Such shields are usually more effective compared to stock ones and are often considered as a performance upgrade since each of them brings several benefits to the table. For instance, mirrored shields block more light than most tinted shields and offer a unique touch of style.
If you ride in fog or rain, the shield of your helmet can quickly get covered with moisture, which may obstruct your vision. Various anti-fog shield inserts and sprays do their job, however, they are not always effective. To ensure clear vision, consider purchasing a dual-pane shield. It provides maximum protection from fogging by means of an additional layer of insulated air between the inner side and the outer insert. With this type of helmet shield, the vision will be left almost unobstructed, so you can see clearly and sharply.
Both clear and tinted shields provide a good level of protection from UV rays by absorbing UV radiation. However, if you are looking for better protection from the sun, consider mirrored or iridium shields. The latter ones offer maximum efficiency in terms of blocking sunlight and glare, which makes them perfect for riding on especially sunny days. But whatever shield you choose, keep in mind that scratches on the outer surface may dramatically reduce the performance of your shield, so proper maintenance with special cleaners and wipes is required for its long-lasting and efficient operation.
