In the case of your UTV, the crankshaft is a relatively small but heavy-duty piece of steel designed to rotate at very high speeds for most of its service life. Seated with a couple of pretty tough bearings, the camshaft converts the linear power impulses of the pistons into relatively smooth, continuous torque that rotates the gearbox and then the wheels. Similar to motorcycles, many side-by-sides have the flywheel(s) integrated right into the rotating assembly, and the crank built from several parts. That is to make the assembly smaller. When it comes to its replacement, you can get a complete kit with already installed engine bearings and connecting rods.
