Any motor has more or less loaded rotating parts, and most of them use engine bearings which help to minimize friction and prolong the lifespan of these components. Bearings are always used in places supporting the crankshaft and crank pins; as for the camshafts, not all of them come with bearings. In many DOHC motors, the cams are just fixed in several journals that have oil channels to provide good lubrication. These parts are not so heavily loaded, so such a setup can work as long as the motor itself if oil quality and pressure are high enough.
There are several kinds of engine bearings including journal, ball, and roller ones. Needle bearings belong to the last type. Thanks to their extremely small cross section and the ability to handle high loads, they are typically installed in places with the lack of space, for instance, in connecting rods. The crank can be supported by ball or roller bearings, and the latter are considered more resistant to high revs. In fact, there are numerous configurations in each of these categories including such options as tapered and double-row bearings.
All of them are selected at the design stage depending on the combination of radial and thrust loads and other working conditions. Meanwhile, many modern powersports vehicles outfitted with four-strokers rely on journal bearings that are rather durable and can work at higher revs, although they are more sensitive to the quality of lubrication. On our virtual shelves, you will find a vast array of engine bearings of all types. If you're about to rebuild the motor and replace some of them, it can be reasonable to get a complete bearing kit rather than trying to find each part individually, and we have plenty of various offerings. The quality of steel, design, and precision are the main aspects making these parts reliable, and we've gathered strong and durable products by reputable companies.
