When you’ve planned a nice day of riding, the last thing you expect is that your powersports vehicle won’t start. When you hear nothing but “click,” it’s downright frustrating. There’s some basic troubleshooting you can do to find out what’s the culprit, and the fix may be as easy as charging the battery, jump starting, or tightening loose connections. However, if that’s not the case, it’s better to address the problem before it gets worse. In our store, you are sure to find the right powersports starting & charging parts that will get your machine back to normal or upgrade it according to your power supply demands.

The first thing you need to check is the power source, as a weak or dead battery is a common reason why your ATV, side-by-side, or snowmobile refuses to start. Loose or corroded terminals can be the troublemaker. This condition creates high resistance which may cause connector overheating and electrical system overload. We have many options when it comes to aftermarket batteries, cables and connectors, all designed to be just as reliable as factory original parts and deliver the same or better electrical performance. You can go with a more affordable lead-acid battery, or opt for a more durable, lighter, maintenance-free AGM or gel battery. Lithium-ion batteries are the latest and greatest additions, which can’t be beat when it comes to long lifespan and slow discharge rate. They’re also extremely lightweight while packing great cranking power.

If the battery is fine, the next part to blame is the starter solenoid, which is a common failure point on ATVs. It is a switch that takes high current from the battery and allows it to flow to the starter motor which turns the engine over. The solenoid typically fails due to excessively high current acting on it for a long time, moisture that can get inside, or overload due to bad wiring. If you need to have the starter or some of its components replaced, look no further than our store where we carry OE-quality units at a reasonable price. All the seals and hardware you need for repair or rebuild are also available right here.

Charging system components come in many different configurations, shapes, and sizes, but just about any type of a modern powersports vehicle, be it a quad, UTV, snowmobile, or personal watercraft has the basic parts such as the stator, the rotor (flywheel), and the rectifier/regulator. These three components make up an alternator (AC generator), which may come as a single sealed unit or have them as standalone parts that work in conjunction with each other. The stator remains stationary, hence the name. It contains up to 18 “coils,” which are basically iron poles with copper wire wrapped around them. The rotor is a moving part that has magnets built in its walls, and when it spins around the stator, alternating current (AC) is generated. Older systems use an internal rotor, which means it spins inside the stator, but the working principle is exactly the same.

The rotor is a simple and sturdy part so it fails quite rarely. However, it is not uncommon for the stator to go bad, typically due to heat and overload caused by too many accessories run at the same time, bad regulator or battery, or poor wiring. As a battery can only accept DC current, there’s a rectifier which does the conversion from AC into DC, while the regulator ensures that the voltage is kept within certain limits to charge a 12V battery without damaging it. While many of the older machines used separate rec and reg units which could be replaced separately, modern vehicles have them built as one single unit. No matter the configuration, here you will find the right replacements.
